In 1866 Longsdon became part of the parish of Eldon Longsdon and Stanley. It became a parish separate from the other two communities in 1894. In 1934 a considerable part of its area was absorbed into the town of Leek.
A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Longsdon from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "LONGSDON, a township in Leek parish, Stafford[shire]; 2 miles WSW of Leek. Real property: £3,517; of which £15 are in quarries. Population: 405."

- Article on Londsdon from The Victoria County History of Staffordshire as provided by the website British History Online. The article covers the manor, economic history (agriculture, mill, trade and industry), local government, churches including non-conformists, education and charities for the poor.
- There is no source reference for 19th century censuses in Longsdon. This may be an oversight or caused by a mis-spelling of Londsdon. It does not appear to be filed with Endon and Stanley.
