A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Llanvihangel Pont y moile from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"LLANVIHANGEL-PONT-Y-MOILE, a parish in Pontypool [registration] district, Monmouth[shire]; on the Brecon canal, adjacent to the Abergavenny and Pontypool railway, 1 mile E of Pontypool. Post town, Pontypool. Acres: 1,651. Real property: £1,598. Population in 1851: 205; in 1861: 300. Houses: 53. The property is divided among a few. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Llandaff. Value: £87. Patron: H. Leigh, Esq. The church is good."

From 1894 until 1935 Llanvihangel Pont y Moile was one of three civil parishes making up Panteg Urban District. In 1935 the urban district was abolished and transferred to the neighbouring Urban District of Pontypool. (Source: A Vision of Britain through Time) At some time later Llanvihangel Pont y Moile dropped the Llanvihangel part of its name and became Pontymoile.

the text in this section is based on an article in Wikipedia which describes Pontymoile in the 21st century

Pontymoile (Welsh: Pont-y-moel) is a large suburb of the town of Pontypool in the County Borough of Torfaen, Wales. It is all but merged with the nearby suburbs of Cwmynyscoy and Upper Race.

Pontymoile is directly south of the centre of Pontypool and is bordered by Griffithstown to the south and New Inn to the east. It contains a mixture of traditional Welsh terraced houses, early Edwardian townhouses and modern 1960s flats and local authority housing. Pontymoile is spread across a large area and so is home to much of Pontypool's facilities.

NOTE: The terms "Llanfihangel" and "Llanvihangel" both mean "the parish dedicated to St. Michael".
