Laverton is a village and civil parish in the Harrogate District of North Yorkshire, England, about 7 miles west of Ripon. The River Laver, from which the village takes its name, flows through the village. The parish includes the area of Dallowgill west of the village of Laverton.
Historically Laverton was a township in the ancient and ecclesiastical parish of Kirkby Malzeard in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The parish was in the Lower division of the wapentake of Claro. Laverton became a separate civil parish in 1866, and was transferred from the West Riding to North Yorkshire in 1974. The parish now shares a parish council with Kirkby Malzeard (Kirkby Malzeard, Laverton and Dallowgill Parish Council).
During its time in the West Riding it was part of Ripon Rural District from 1894 until 1937, and part of Ripon and Pateley Bridge Rural District from 1937 until 1974.

- A Vision of Britain through Time also provides links to maps of the West Riding, produced by the United Kingdom Ordnance Survey, illustrating the boundaries between the civil parishes and the rural districts at various dates. Those listed here provide data for the part of the West Riding that transferred to North Yorkshire in 1974 plus the northern parts of Leeds and Bradford. These maps all blow up to a scale that will illustrate small villages and large farms or estates.

This is unfortunate because the equivalent map from 1931-44 was redrawn after the 1938 reorganization of the rural districts in the northern part of the West Riding.]
