From the Gazetteer for Scotland:

"An attractive little village of mainly 19th-century white-painted houses in Dumfries and Galloway, Laurieston lies on the Camelon Lane burn, 10 miles (16 km) south of New Galloway. There is a monument to the novelist S. R. Crockett (1860 - 1914), author of The Raiders and Men of the Moss Hags, who was born at Balmaghie Farm and educated in Laurieston."

Laurieston was located in the parish of Balmaghie in the former County of Kirkcudbrightshire in southwest Scotland.
