According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.1 square miles (93.6 km²), of which, 35.6 square miles (92.3 km²) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km²) of it (1.44%) is water.
As of the census[Geographic references#2|2 of 2000, there were 3,141 people, 1,210 households, and 895 families residing in the township. The population density was 88.2 per square mile (34.0/km²). There were 1,569 housing units at an average density of 44.0/sq mi (17.0/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.87% White (U.S. Census)|White, 0.25% African American (U.S. Census)|African American, 0.45% Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American, 0.16% Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian, 0.41% from Race (United States Census)|other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic or Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino of any race were 0.83% of the population.
