Hornby is a village and civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. It lies on a minor road between Great Smeaton and Appleton Wiske. This is roughly 9 miles from Northallerton, 9 miles from Darlington, and 7 miles from Yarm. According to the UK census of 2001 Hornby had a population of 206, which had increased by the time of the census in 2011 to 238.

Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Hornby was located in Northallerton Rural District. Historically, it was located in the ancient parish of Great Smeaton and was in the Gilling East Wapentake (although Great Smeaton was in the Allerton Wapentake. It was in the Northallerton Registration District.
