A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following descriptions of Hartoft and Turnhill from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"HARTOFT, a township in Middleton parish, [North Riding of] Yorkshire; 6 miles ENE of Richmond. Acres, with Turnhill: 4,740. Population: 180. Houses: 28."
"TURNHILL, an extra-parochial tract in Pickering district, [North Riding of] Yorkshire; near Pickering. Population: 8. House: 1."
