The Gore District was established in 1816 at The Head of the Lake (the western tip of Lake Ontario) where the City of Hamilton now stands. At that time the Province of Upper Canada (later known as Ontario) was divided into administrative districts which each had a court. The Gore District was dissolved in 1853 when its administrative functions passed to the counties (including Halton and Wentworth) which had comprised the district. |
