Gnaw Bone is an unincorporated community in Washington Township, Brown County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. Gnaw Bone is situated on State Highway 46, between Nashville and Columbus. The small community contains three flea markets. [edit] Research TipsThe truth is, nobody really knows the origin of the name Gnawbone. There are multiple stories attributing it to "seeing someone gnawing on a bone" in the area of the settlement. The French origin has been disputed in "History and Families 1836-1990 Brown County, Indiana". I have been interested in this subject for many years because my grandfather was born near Gnawbone.--User:JuliaCarl
