Gloucester County (2016 population 78,444[1]) is located in the northeastern corner of New Brunswick, Canada. Fishing, mining and forestry are the major industries in the county. The eastern section of the county is known for its Acadian culture.

The county was established in 1826 and named for Princess Mary, Duchess of Gloucester (1776-1857), the daughter of King George III and the wife of the Duke of Gloucester. Prior to 1826 it was part of Northumberland County. Gloucester County included all of Restigouche County until 1837. (Source:Place Names of New Brunswick)
