Fettercairn is a parish in the traditional county of Kincardineshire. It contains the village of Fasque as well as the village of Fettercairn itself.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Fettercairn from John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles of 1887:

"Fettercairn, par. and vil., SW. Kincardineshire, -- parish: 13,728 ac., population: 1503; vilage: at confluence of Crichie Burn and the Burn of Balnakettle, 4½ miles NW. of Laurencekirk, population: 398; [Post Office], [Telegraph Office], 1 Bank; in NE. vicinity of vil. is [Fettercairn] House, seat of Lord Clinton."
