Charlotte County is a county located in the U.S. state — officially, "Commonwealth" — of Virginia. The county was formed in 1764 from Lunenburg County, and it is named for Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III of England. Its county seat is Charlotte Court House, and, as of the 2000 census, the population was 12,472. Charlotte is a semi-dry county, meaning restaurants may not serve liquor by the drink but beer and wine can be sold by grocery and convenience stores.
The county's high school is Randolph-Henry High School, built in 1939 and named for John Randolph and Patrick Henry, who both lived in the county.
