Research Tips

Canal Fulton was, before the construction of the Erie Canal in the 1830s, two separate small communities on either side of the Tuscarawas River in Lawrence Twp, named Milan and Fulton. With the advent of the canal with a Lock at the outskirts of both communities, the two joined into a small village named Canal Fulton. Neither was ever called Midland or Miland.
