Brooklyn is a town in Windham County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 8,450 at the 2020 census. The town center village is listed by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place. The district of East Brooklyn is listed as a separate census-designated place.

Research Tips

In May 1786, Brooklyn was formed from a large section of Mortlake Manor (patented in 1687) and part of the Town of Canterbury.
Mortlake Manor boundaries:
Northern boundary followed Mashamoquet Brook. The Eastern boundary followed the Quinebaug. The Western boundary was about a half-mile west of and parallel to Connecticut State Route 169. The southern boundary laid approximately a half-mile north of today’s U.S. Route 6.
Mortlake was roughly 6 miles east to west, and 7 miles north to south.
