Barkby is a village and civil parish in the Charnwood District of Leicestershire, England. It is situated northeast of Leicester, and only a short way from Leicester's urban sprawl in Thurmaston and Syston. Nearby villages are Beeby and Barkby Thorpe. Barkby Brook is the main water source which flows through Barkby. The parish has a population of around 300.

Barkby Hall is a grade II listed country house with 3 storeys and an 8-bay frontage, constructed in rendered brick c.1810. Barkby Hall has been the property and seat of the Pochin family since 1604.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Barkby from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"BARKBY, a township and a parish in Barrow-upon-Soar [registration] district, Leicester. The township lies on an affluent of the river Wreak, 1½ mile S by E of Syston [railway] station, and 4½ NE of Leicester; and it includes the hamlet of Hambleton. Real property: £3,739. Population: 504. Houses: 117.
"The parish contains also the township of North Thurmaston and the hamlet of Barkby-Thorpe; and its Post Town is Syston, under Leicester. Acres: 2,290. Real property, exclusive of Thurmaston: £4,739. Population: 791. Houses: 183. Barkby Hall is the seat of W. Pochin, Esq. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough. Value: £250. Patron: W. Pochin, Esq. The church is good; and there are two Methodist chapels and a national school."
