Amite County is a county located in the state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population is 13,599. It is named after the Amite River which is located in the county. The name is derived from the French amitiƩ, meaning "friendship." Its county seat is Liberty.
Amite County is part of the McComb, Mississippi, Micropolitan Statistical Area.
