Place:Ahab and Ruth Hill Memorial Cemetery 1835, North Adams, Berkshire, Massachusetts, United States

Watchers

Ahab Hill moved to the Adams area of Western Massachusetts pre 1800's with his wife Ruth and their children. He cleared the land and started farming on the side of a mountain north of town and raised his family. More children were born and in the end they had 1 son who died early and 8 daughters who married and brought their husbands home to settle nearby. It was quite a settlement.

When Ahab died in 1835 they buried him out in the pasture, where else? It was the land that he loved and was close to the family. Grave yards were not common so they buried him close by. Life went on with the daughter's husbands carrying on the farm, the kids playing, and the women managing everything. When Ruth died she designated an area 1/4 acre for a cemetery where the family could be buried together. They named it Advent Cemetery. Advent is the time of waiting for Christ the child to be born at Christmas time. Advent Cemetery is a place of waiting for the return of Christ at the last Trumpet call when Christ comes to take his church home.
