Person talk:William Dearmont (1)

Quick tips about page titles and the latest updates [28 April 2017]

The wiki page title is currently "William Deasmit", but "Deasmit" is a transcription error made by the indexer of the 1880 census which could just as easily have been read as "Dearmit". Usually, we specify that the page title should be the first and last name at birth, probably "William DeArmont", but you could also decide to go with the name he was later most often recorded by, i.e. probably "William Dearmont". Either way, it should be renamed from "Deasmit", since that is just an error. I'll leave the renaming to either of you, so that you can decide which version you'd prefer.

Regarding the latest updates to the page, I wanted to demonstrate for you how we usually format source citations to link to our Source pages and the actual digital images and how you could link the students in your project to the project Category page, if you wanted to. As you can see, the resulting category link is the same as the title of the category. If you wanted to continue doing this, I would suggest that we re-name the category to the official name of the school, just to keep everything consistent and have it display without the double place name on each page. The more you link pages together, the more opportunities you create for discovering relationships between individuals and families.

If you do not like the category link, it is no problem at all. We can undo it very easily - just say the word. I simply wanted to let you see some of the possibilities that are available to you here. --cos1776 17:18, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

p.s. - Would you conclude that William's parents divorced, since his father lived into the 1890s, and his mother had remarried?
