Person talk:Valdrada De Venice (1)

Identity of Alberto's wife [2 March 2013]

I added a couple of conflicting sources for Alberto Azzo's wife. Cawley gives her as "Adela, daughter of Oberto & his wife" cites a charter naming "Adela comitissa et conjus Azoni marchio" (Muratori (Este), Parte I, p. 119. ) and and another naming "Adela comitissa conjus Azoni marchio" (Muratori (Este), Parte I, p. 121.). The cite I added for her being Valdrada, daughter of Pietro Candiano IV, Doge of Venice (which was previously just an unsourced assertion here), is an old one from Collins, but ultimately also derives from Muratori's work, if I am not mistaken (or at least a suggestion of Leibniz in a letter to him.) This suggestion seems to be widely repeated on the web. A Gen-Medieval posting from 1997 suggests that Valdrada is incorrect, and that Alberto Azzo's wife is unknown. Does anyone know any more?--Werebear 09:47, 2 March 2013 (EST)
