Person talk:Turchetil de Tourville (1)

House of Harcourt [16 July 2014]

Turchetil is listed as a son, not son-in-law of Torf on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Harcourt, which is given as a source on this page. So why is he connected as a son-in-law? A possible wife given on http://fabpedigree.com/s074/f072478.htm is Adeline de Montfort.--Tammyhensel 01:29, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Cawley (the second source cited) indicates that Torf was Turchetil's father-in-law. He does not give the reasoning for this (which is unusual, as he has gone back to original sources wherever he could). You might try contacting him - I have never done that, but I understand that others have and he is open to being contacted. Note that Cawley (while not perfect - everyone makes mistakes) is a more reliable source than most you will find.
Note also that Torf's record and ancestry in WeRelate does not appear to have been subjected to much cleansing by those of us who have attempted to make corrections to medieval records based on reliable sources. For example, his name should not be Harcourt (that name was apparently first used by Turchetil's son - as implied by Cawley and stated in the Wikiipedia article). Cawley indicates that Torf's ancestry is unknown - and I would trust this more than the Wikipedia article or pretty much any other online pedigree.
BTW: I stopped working on medieval records some time ago and am preoccupied with other work right now. --DataAnalyst 03:33, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Interesting. I just wondered, since every online site I looked at had him as a son. Thanks--Tammyhensel 05:45, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
