my burrills in yorkshire are Thomas burrill born 1847 in Caistor lincs. moved to harrogate about mid 1860s married annie potterton in1868 they lived in west park rd harrogate cum bilton in 1871 with son arthur who was born in bradford herbert burrill was born 12 months later and also 2 girls nellyand gertie birth dates unknow .My grandfather george edward burrill was born in harogate in march 1882 but his father tom is not mentioned on his birth cert. I canfind no death cert. fot tom as yet and no trace of my grandad on the 1891 census he didnt stray to far from harrogate as he married in leeds in 1905 I beleive he was a doorman at the Grand theatre in harrogate as a young man .Tom had a lot of brothers an a sister but their names are registered as borrill and they all seem to have come from Lincs to live in the yorkshire area I hope some one can give me a clue as to where my grandfather was inbetween being born in 1882 and getting married in1905 he wasnt with his parents nor were nelly and gertie please help if you can as ive come to a full stop in this line of my family as a matter of interest grandad lived to the ripe old age of 90 when he died in Bridlington yorkshire

I think you are correct. I doubt very much that the Thomas Borrill married in 1870 would be the same fellow as the Thomas Borrill with Annie and Arthur in 1871.

I found son Arthur in 1881 living with his grandparents

I did not find son Herbert in 1881 census, nor did I find Annie.

I did find the birth record for Alice

I looked at the image and it shows: Birth date Nov. 23, 1879 (July date is baptism) Alice Ann Address: 12 Princes Street, London Road Father is a stone mason

• I was hoping it would have her mother's maiden name

I looked for a marriage for Thomas and this Sarah but did not find anything.

This looks like marriage for Alice

There are two possible husbands for her: Richard William Hopkins or Albert Smith I don't know why her marriage is not listed in the London, England marriages and banns 1754-1921 as she did marry in London

I went back to Annie and her sons to look for them in 1881 and later. I had already given you Arthur in 1881.

The closest person I could find to Arthur Borrillin 1891 is an Arthur Burrell , age 19 who is a servant in Burton Cherry, Beverley, Yorkshire - born Willerby, Yorkshire

I went back to 1881 to look again for Annie and Herbert but did not find them - I would have thought they would have been there with her parents and Arthur - maybe they were just missed?

In 1901 Thomas Potterton and Maria are alone.

There is one Herbert Burrill that looks likely as he is in Knaresborough, right age, and born Harrogate and he is a painter which matches with 1891

I looked for Ann in 1901 and did not find her. I then tried just using first name and born 1848 +-2 years Halifax, Yorkshire but did not find her.

I did find a death for an Ann Burrell in 1901

I don't know if this is your Ann or not.
