Person talk:Sarah Fairfield (1)

Date of death [8 November 2017]

Just an FYI

There seems to be a conflict regarding date of death for Sarah.

Checked Abbe, Cleveland, and Josephine Genung Nichols. Abbe--Abbey genealogy : in memory of John Abbe and his descendants (1916), and no reason or source is given for date of death.

Fairfield, Wynn Cowan and Alice Fairfield Saam. Descendants of John Fairfield of Wenham, Massachusetts (1953) give date of death as between 19 Feb 1717/8 when her father made his will and 6 Jan 1725/6, when her children signed for her share of her father's estate. The problem is that her father died intestate.

The John Fairfield Descendants Database, which is supposed to be based on Wynn Cowan Fairfield's work with updates, says "She died on 27 Nov 1742 at www.findagrave.com entry / unsubstantiated, Enfield, Hartford, CT, at age 86." I couldn't find a Memorial for Sarah Abb* in Connecticut at either Find A Grave or at Ancestry for 1742, or earlier. (Doesn't mean it's not there -- just I didn't find it.) Could she have remarried?

Deitrich, Harriet Hall, "Philip Parsons of Enfield, Conn., Grandson of Walter2 Fairfield of Denham, Mass.", The American Genealogist. Vol 66:4 (Oct 1991) quotes/cites Wynn Cowan Fairfield for date of death, but adds a transcript of the note signed by her children, source Essex County, Massachusetts Land Records 49:160. The Note was signed by Phillip Parsons, Thomas Abby, John Abby, Sarah Gears, and Tabitha Warner, and specifically names Walter Fairfield as their grandfather. [My guess would be that the note was received in Massachusetts after the probate file was closed, so the note was recorded in the land records. I've seen this happen in other situations.]

My interest is in Love Parsons, so will leave this for others to resolve. --GayelKnott 16:32, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Enfield records (as published in the History of Enfield, 2:1869) say "Sarah Abbe dyed Novemr [th]e 27th 1742." I assume this is the source for a death in Enfield in 1742. However, there is no mention of age in this transcribed record, and it could be for a different person.--DataAnalyst 00:49, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
