Person talk:Peter Evans (1)

Residence [25 March 2016]

Efforts to locate a homestead have been somewhat inconclusive due to no entries for Peter Evans in the grantee index of deeds. Unfortunately without an index entry, finding deeds becomes a matter of clever guessing and luck.

Without knowing how much and when Peter acquired real estate it becomes hard to tell where he lived and hence where the children were born. Existing data is ambiguous and probably can be argued either Northfield or Deerfield.

Everything is recorded in Deerfield, These are not neighboring townships. If Peter moved, one would expect his records in Deerfield would cease.

Northfield was a township in the late 1600's, incorporated as a town in 1723, and records (at least those available online) don't start until closer to 1750. However, somebody could certainly be called of Northfield at any time under discussion.

Temple says Peter removed to Northfield about 1716. In 1715, Peter "of Deerfield" sells land. In 1717, Peter "of Northfield" sells land. That probably explains Temple's assertion. But it may be oversimplistic.

The land Peter sells in 1715 is 2 parcels in Deerfield, neither described as homestead, homelot, or having house or barn. In other words, it is not clear he sold his homestead and removed. In 1717, he sells several parcels in Northfield totalling 47 acres including one described as a homelot. But not knowing what other land he held, or what he bought, if anything, to replace these disposed of properties, again, it is impossible to draw many conclusions. --Jrich 13:59, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
