bad data [25 April 2022]

I have removed the following posted source. The data appears demonstrably wrong.

Information from Lisa Rich West; 1993; Source; Curtis, St. Lawrence County part II, Biographical Sketches.

... Noah was son of Jonathan, born at Scituate in 1739 and died March 24 1814, at Templeton, Worcester County, Mass. He settled there as early as 1753 ...

[the death record on 24 Mar 1814 is Noah, not Jonathan as this page showed, and the age of 82 y. 7 m. works out to a birth about Aug 1731, not 1739. No birth record for Noah is found to show who his parents are, but the will of Jonathan Merritt in Hebron in 1758 names no son Noah (wife Mary, three daughters Mehitabel, Hannah & Elisabeth) (East Haddam Probate ]Vol. 3, p. 3[). History of Addison County Vermont p. 755 says Noah was son of Jonathan Merritt, b. 1792 (typo for 1702) d. in Hebron in 1758. Stearns History of Ashburnham p. 825 adds that Jonathan m. 1727 Mehitable Damon who is buried in Hebron having d. 1751. Hebron records only show a Jonathan that m. Mary Perry 1752 and d. 1758 after 4 daughters were born (Abigail plus the three in the will) so if this is the Jonathan that married 1727 Mehitable Damon, Mary was his second wife, apparently no children by first wife based on this will. Only known child by Mehitable, Simeon, died; frequently purported daughters (e.g., see ]Find A Grave[) Sarah b. 1744 and Elizabeth b. 1743 (name conflicts with known later daughter by Mary) are born after Stearns says Jonathan left Scituate (1730, also note that known son Simeon buried in Hebron in 1739) and these are probably children of Jonathan Merritt and Sarah Wade who married in Scituate 1741.]

... Noah born in October 1758, at Templeton, who died August 21, 1843, at Sudbury, Rutland County, Vt. He married Eunice Metcalf, removing to Brandon, Vt.about 1787. He was father of Noadiah ...

[the gravestone on 21 Aug 1843 gives an age of 89, which works out to a birth in 1754, not 1758, and a birth record in Vermont records, presumably recorded as an adult, agrees.] --Jrich 21:20, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
