This is the wrong Mary Haynes [11 August 2017]

Jonathan and Sarah had a 3rd daughter named Mary: Haverhill VR 1:151 Births: Haines: Mary, d. Jonathan and Sarah (Moulton), Mar. 3, 1686-7. This is the birth date given in NYBGR 52(Oct 1921)330 for the Mary Haynes who married John Preston. He was b 1 May 1685 in Andover; d. 25 Jul 1733 Windham, CT and bur. Hampton CT (Notes that burial monument was repaired with the wrong age in 1898 by C.H. Preson of Danvers). They married 10 Jan 1706/7 [All this information per the NYGBR noted]

The heirs of Jonathan Haynes include a Margaret who m. Thomas Kingsbury in 1706. She d. 1753 age 70. Her husband was b. 1681. This is presented in the Genealogy of Desendants of Henry Kingsbury, for example, p. 167 and an article on the Haynes Family in NEHGR Vol. 9, p. 350. It is also given in an article Vol. 109, p. 164. So it appears widely accepted by many people that the Mary in the records was really Margaret.

The article in NYGBR is on the Preston family and shows no signs that they studied the whole Haynes family, particularly trying to explain Margaret. As such, they would have taken the VRs at face value and assumed the last record for Mary was John Preston's wife.

Without an age at death for the wife of John Preston, and without a death record for the 2nd Mary Haynes, or an alternate birth or baptism for Margaret, it at least appears to be the prevailing understanding. --Jrich 01:06, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
