Person talk:Maria Davis (23)

question on Maria, d/o Hannah Hughes [13 March 2017]

Welcome to WeRelate! You've added Maria Louisa as a child of Hannah Hughes and I see a problem that I may be able to help you with if you want. It appears that you've added Maria Louisa both as daughter of Adam Ash and also of William Davis.
Maria Louisa Ash (24) (1827-1899) has no husband and no children and no sources.
Maria Louisa Davis (23) (1827-1899) has a husband and children but also has no sources.

Now I have to doubt that Maria Louise Davis is child of Hannah and a second husband because her first husband, Adam Ash, didn't die until 1855 and Maria was born in 1827. So I could assume that she was really Maria Louisa Ash but I try not to post assumptions on WeRelate. If you have some source that would verify that she is Hannah and Adam Ash's daughter, I would be glad to either fix this or tell you how to do it.

If you will respond right on this page, I will get a link to it and be able to see what you would like to do. We relate does have a bit of a learning curve and we try to help as much as possible. I haven't found a better source for well documented genealogy so it is worth the learning. --janiejac 04:40, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi. I am unlinking Maria Davis from her purported parents for the reasons given above and additional ones that follow. The death certificate of Maria's daughter establishes that Maria's maiden name was Davis - while this could be an error, her 1845 marriage record also identifies her name as Davis, at a time when she could not have been using the name of a step-father she did not acquire until 1859 (if she was the daughter of Hannah Hughes). Furthermore, there was a Hannah Davis, age 45 and born in New York, listed with Maria and her husband in Indiana in the 1850 census - quite possibly Maria's mother. None of this is consistent with Maria being the daughter of Hannah (Hughes Ash) Davis.
