Still in the family? [11 January 2013]

If Aeltje Cornelis Cool and Pieterje Cornelis Cool are not longer thought to be members of this family, is Lambert Cornelis Cool still in the right place?--Renee Dauven 22:14, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Answering my own question: Evidently he, along with Aeltje are both the children of an unknown first wife. The third child in the family was actually name Aechtje, not Pieterje. Need good documentation for this family group.

I have not worked this family. But what I do have was compiled by a great aunt who was not extremely accurate. There is a website, somewhat documented but difficult to follow, at [1] It seems to be well researched. Possibly there is much good informmation to be found there. Some thoughts on naming. The Dutch were quick to Anglicise their names (vis a vis van Kouwenhoven/van Couwenhoven/Couwenhoven/Conover) so spellings changed from generation to generation. Cornelis is the Dutch spelling of the Latin Cornelius. The feminine suffex "je" pronounced cha is a diminutive attached to any name, so Aeltien becomes Aeltje. The suffices s, se and sen make a given name into a patronymic, hence Cornelise is son of Cornelis. Including alternate spellings will aid the search engine in locating these pages. More important is documentation of sources for places, vital statistics, events etc. Some obvious errors, birth places in the new world prior to colonization circa 1624. Gowanus is in Brooklyn, Kings County, not Orange County. Certainly much work is required here. Welcome, --Scot 16:45, 8 January 2013 (EST)

Yes, although this Cool family group is actually beyond my normal area of research, I hope to add what documentation I do have. It will be a slow process, I'm afraid, as I'm trying to also update and upgrade my own computer work while also doing reads of the Town Records of Long Island. Thanks for the welcome.
