Dissension on date of death for Joseph [28 July 2012]

I am moving the following text from an article page that was created by User:Mashtali. This talk page, rather than an article page, is the appropriate place to have this discussion. --Jennifer (JBS66) 10:45, 27 July 2012 (EDT)

In the family page I am hoping to reference this to it is stated that Joseph French who is believed to be husband of Mary Pillsbury died in 1732. Another researcher has concluded the date of death for him was 1761. I find no Joseph French listed as dying in 1732 in the Salisbury VR collection and Mary wife of Joseph is listed as that w. Joseph, not wid. Joseph. While this is of course not compelling evidence, we don't have a lot to go on with these people and I think researchers in that family need to give that careful consideration unless someone can come up with a will or some more compelling evidence of death for Joseph in 1732. unsigned by User:Mashtali.

Salisbury VR lists the following deaths (Vol I, pp 564-65):
  • [French,] Joseph, jr., Dec 14, 1683
  • [French,] Joseph, June 6, 1710 N. CT. BK.
  • [French,] Joseph, Dea., Aug. 27, 1749
  • French, Joseph, Serg., Oct. 22, 1761.
  • [French,] Joseph, s. Amos and Judith (Swett), June 1, 1799, P.R. 25
  • [French,] Joseph B., s. Silas [and Hannah G.R. 1], July 21, 1820. [July 19, a. 6 W. G. R. 1.]
Note the absence of any 1732 death.--Jillaine 06:11, 28 July 2012 (EDT)

"Caleb Jay French," in NEHGS Register v80 (1926), p 116, calls this Joseph French the sergeant, and he who died 22 Oct 1761.--Jillaine 06:32, 28 July 2012 (EDT)

"Memoirs: Amos Tuck French," in NEHGS Register v96 (1942), page 85, claims that the Joseph French who died in Salisbury 6 Jun 1710 was the tailor and son of the emigrant, Edward French. (Sure wish these articles would claim their sources...)--Jillaine 07:11, 28 July 2012 (EDT)

A review of all French deaths in Salisbury VR finds the following deaths in 1732:
  • Simon [supposed father of the Joseph in Question] 19 April 1732 (page 566)
  • Tamzin, w. Henry [French], jr. 15 Mar 1731/2 (page 566)
So the question that all this raises for me is: Where does this 1732 death date come from?
