While I agree that the John Mayo who m. Hannah Freeman is the son of Samuel, I disagree that his birth date was 1652. That birth date belongs to the son of John Mayo and Hannah Lecraft: VR Eastham, Mayflower Descendant, 6:205 It does not appear that Samuel Mayo was in Eastham in 1652, so the John born there was not his son. According to Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine By Henry Sweetser Burrage, Albert Roscoe Stubbs "Rev. Samuel, son of Rev. John Mayo, was born about 1615, in England. He was ordained a teaching elder (minister) April 15, 1640, at Barnstable,...bought a large tract of land of the Indians at Oyster Bay, in 1653, and went thither about 1654. Four years or so later he settled in Boston, Massachusetts, where he died in 1663." This source says his son John was born in Oyster Bay about 1657. So when the will of the husband of Hannah Freeman bequeaths to one of his sons "all rights in Oyster Bay or Jericho on Long Island N.Y", it indicates that the John Mayo who married Hannah Freeman was the son of Samuel Mayo. (Information on the will of Hannah Freeman's husband John comes from [1]). This one of those genealogical issues that is very confused and there are many websites that attribute the parentage of the husband of Hannah Freeman either way. There is also more evidence, but I think this summarizes the most potent evidence regarding this. --Jrich 23:29, 4 September 2008 (EDT)
