Person talk:James Huston (4)

Watchers

Phillip

Personal communication from Dion Huston...

Going through the tax lists, it appears that Phillip served in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, and got land in Taylorstown where he lived for a long time.  In fact, he appears to have been in Buffalo Township concurrently with Isaac who owned land there from 1818 on.

While we haven't (yet) discovered a definitive link between Phillip and Isaac, it makes sense that there was an existing solitary Huston line in Buffalo, followed by another.  It also solves a number of difficulties (e.g. the reference that Isaac was born in Buffalo, that James had no record of property there, etc.).  There are a couple open questions:

Isaac is listed as from Canton Township in the wedding announcement.  Possible answer: he was there training as a mason. Ann Huston is listed as a resident of Buffalo following the death of James… Why?  Possible answer: James and Phillip may have been kin (brothers?) The tax lists we looked at listed several other children of Phillip in Buffalo when he was off to war.  They were listed as Ann, John, Elizabeth, and William.  So we have a bunch more leads.  Also he was listed as a taylor in Taylorstown.

It should be easy to get more information on Phillip, and I'll be looking into that this afternoon, but I wanted to let you all know… Oh, Phillip apparently was born and served in MD
