Person talk:Jacob Rice (1)

How do we know that Jacob is son of Edward? [13 September 2010]

JRich, I see you added Jacob to the list of children of Edward Rice. Your source for his birth is his death record. What else do we have to tie him to Edward?

Thanks!

Well, to be precise, I didn't add him to the family, he was already there. I believe the original creation of the page put him into Edward and Anna, and merging changed that to Edward and Agnes where he is now. He is listed this way on the Edmund Rice Association website and in Andrew Ward's book, so it seems to be the general belief, but I found no specific evidence proving it. His birth seems to fit, and he ended up in Marlboro, where Edward and his family moved in 1664 when Jacob would have been about 14, but the names of his children don't really confirm it. If there is evidence he belongs to a different family, I see nothing that would stand in its way. --Jrich 12:20, 13 September 2010 (EDT)

Just noticed that NEHGR 64:79 has a note by a "Miss Elizabeth A. Rice" describing an unrecorded deed from Edward and Agnes Rice to son Jacob, dated 27 Nov 1701, acknowledged 22 Mar 1703 before James Nuwel, Justice. --Jrich 12:35, 13 September 2010 (EDT)

Cool! you're quite the detective these days. I wish I had that kind of time. Well, actually, I don't. I really need paid time, so that's more important right now. Thanks again! Jillaine 13:59, 13 September 2010 (EDT)
