Person talk:Henry Whitney (15)

Soruce for wife's identity? [11 November 2013]

Is there any evidence for the identity of Sarah, wife first of Edward Ketcham and then of Henry Whitney? The following quote is taken from Henry's person page, with no source to support it.

'He married secondly, after 8 Jun 1655, Sarah (Salmon) Ketcham, daughter of Christopher and Anne (Taylor) Salmon and widow of Edward Ketcham of Stratford, CT.'

No published source that I have seen identifies the surname or ancestry of this Sarah, although the following (which looks like it was possibly copied from a book) used to appear on her first husband's page until I removed it:

'[EDWARD KATCHAM-1 (d 1655)] EDWARD KATCHAM, b ca 1590 (poss Kent, near Chatham, England), O (Tradesman), L (Cambridge, England; Ipswich, MA; 1651 Southold (CT Col.), L.I.; 1653 Stratford, CT), poss Immigrated 1629 Ship Hopewell of Winthrop Fleet (Salem, MA), Freeman in 1635, d 8 Jun 1655 (Stratford Plantation, Connecticut Colony), Will proved 17 Jun 1655; m1 MARY HALL 22 Aug 1619 St. Andrews Anglican Church (Cambridge, England) [ d <1639]; m2 SARAH SALMON ca 1640 [b ca 1600-15 (London, England), dau of CHRISTOPHER SALMON, (her m2 HENRY WHITNEY ca 1658-59, he d Oct 1673), d >1673.'

This has the appearance of an old theory that is no longer supported. If no one responds, I'll assume that there is no (reliable) evidence for her identity and I will change her name to Sarah Unknown and remove the notes from Henry Whitney's page that identify her as Sarah Salmon, daughter of Christopher Salmon. If anyone finds evidence later, it can always be changed back.--DataAnalyst 01:50, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
