Person talk:Hannah Briggs (1)

Confusing data needs checking [27 June 2009]

I was just updating the source link because it was pointing to Boston births 1639-1690 and the correct title was Boston births 1630-1699. In the original page, the source was named, but the text said "Cited in Harris, Gale Ione. 'Wolston Brockway of Lyme, Connecticut', NEHGR 162:140.". Because I want to remove the incorrect source, I change the citation to the correct name and actually provided the transcriptions found there. However, I think this calls into question some of the conclusions made by the NEHGR article. As you can see from the transcriptions which I double checked, both birth records specify the 6th month (August), not one June and the other August. So the question is:

  • are these two records of the same birth and only one noted the death of Hannah the same day
  • are these twins, and the younger one ended up with the name Hannah when the older twin died
  • is the notation of death meant for a different record and attached to Hannah by mistake, causing the town clerk to correct this by adding a redundant entry for Hannah later in the month
  • are these two records of two different Hannahs both born in August, not necessarily on the same day
  • are the parents named wrong in one record and the Hannah who died belonged to a different Briggs family
  • probably multiple other possibilities

I'll leave answering this mess to people who study this family. I was just cleaning up this wrong source title and didn't know I was going to add to the confusion by doing so. --Jrich 14:24, 27 June 2009 (EDT)
