Margaret Barker, wife of Fr Doughty, Sr. [1 September 2013]

Hello there,

I just discovered your excellent work on the Coles and Doughtys. I just wanted to point out that it is possible to go further on Elizabeth Doughty. There is a marriage record and even an explicit reference in the Visitation of Shropshire (1623) to Francis Doughty marrying Margaret Barker at Westbury on Trym, Cloucs. See page 27 in particular. Please forgive the egregious url.

http://books.google.com/books?id=DG5KAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA236&lpg=PA236&dq=visitation+of+Shropshire+Doughty&source=bl&ots=enwWu0WXLO&sig=Bf1HM8QN_wpzZ5FgZF3wBos9K54&hl=en&sa=X&ei=qjsjUoiBNcS_sASw4IHICA&ved=0CF0Q6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=Doughty&f=false

I gather that the best source for this is:

Title: The American Genealogist. Page: 2002, Vol 77, p 1-17, 127-136, 289 Note: John Anderson Brayton, "The Ancestry of the Reverend Francis Doughty of Massachusetts, Long Island, Amsterdam, Maryland, and Virginia"

which I have been unable to obtain.

Here are some useful secondary links with clues to better references. I am sure you know some of these already!

http://www-personal.umich.edu/~bobwolfe/gen/pn/p5516.htm (Wm Barker) http://www-personal.umich.edu/~bobwolfe/gen/pn/p5516.htm (Will of Francis Doughty).

Again, its clear that you are an expert on this family. Ihope I am not insulting you with things you already know! Anyway, its at least highly plausible that this family can be extended into the middle ages, to the extent that we trust Visitation pedigrees, at least!

Cheers, Dave

Thank you. I am very happy to know that these pages are being discovered and read. I am by no means an expert on the Cole and Doughty families, but I came across a rich vein of information while working around them, became interested, and got a little carried away with adding the information. :) I welcome any constructive contributions to any of these pages and look forward to seeing what you might add. Best Wishes! --Cos1776 14:26, 6 September 2013 (EDT)
