Person talk:Deborah Turner (1)

From Deborah Thurston (2): No Such Person? [9 September 2009]

Source:Thurston genealogies, 1635-1880, p. 358, has the following note: "The town records of Medfield show that Deborah Thurston married Jabish Talman Nov. 18, 1665, and it seems almost certain that she was a daughter of the above John."

However, she was not listed in the family. Dedham records do not seem to have either birth or baptism of Deborah. Hannah is the last child listed for John & Margaret Thurston there.

A marriage in 1665 would call into question the birth date of 1652 shown on this page.

Source:Vital records of Medfield, Massachusetts, to the year 1850, p. 176, has "Tatman, Jabesh [? Jabez] and Deborah Turner, Nov. 18, 1668", which differs in three way from the claim made by the Thurston Gen., but is the closest record I can find what is claimed.

Source:Crane, Ellery Bicknell. Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of Worcester County Massachusetts, p. 2:359, says that Deborah Turner, d/o John and Deborah Turner, b. Roxbury 14 Jan 1649, m. 18 Nov 1668 Jabez Tatman of Roxbury.

The Thurston Gen. mentions that the will of John Thurston, dated 13 Jun 1683, proved 21 Oct 1686, mentions sons Thomas, John, Daniel, Joseph, the widow of Benjamin; daughters Mary Smith; sons in law Jonathan Treadway [m. Judith], and Joseph Chaney [m. Hannah]. Note that there is no mention of a Deborah or any heirs of Deborah. --Jrich 11:57, 9 September 2009 (EDT)

The above discussion provides ample justification for merging "Deborah Thurston" with "Deborah Turner" and getting the apparently bogus Deborah Thurston out of the database.--jaques1724 16:54, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
