Places given as birth and death places [1 March 2013]

I have been editing places in Glasgow, Scotland. I came upon Bernard Casey with a street address as part of his place of death. I know the street address really ought to be in the Description field and I think that, since Blackfriars, Glasgow, was never a parish but merely a community within Glasgow, it ought to be part of the Description as well. Then I noticed that the place has been "piped" to a Glasgow in the United States....

Is the place of death meant to be in Glasgow, Scotland?

Similarly, I assume the birthplace for Bernard Casey was County Monaghan, Ireland. The Republic of Ireland did not exist until 1922-23.

I hope you don't mind my drawing these problems to your attention. --goldenoldie 14:12, 28 February 2013 (EST)

Hi Goldenoldie. Thanks for pointing these out. In response:
  1. Yes, it's definitely the Scottish one - I can only guess a gremlin in the upload which I didn't spot. I've changed.
  2. I can't see the street name in the place of death, even in the older versions of this person page
  3. The page for Place:County Monaghan, Republic of Ireland says it was "In Ireland" before 1922 so I think that covers it. I'm happy with your solution piping it through.

Well that's a relief.

I am in the midst of cleaning up Place:Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. What with the expansion of heavy engineering in the 1840s and the effects of the "clearances" of people from large rural estates (and of the Irish potato famine as well), Glasgow boomed just as much as any city in the American mid-west in the 1840s. Prior to that there was a myriad of communities that were parishes keeping their own bmd records and other communities which were part of these little parishes. I am trying to sort the communities and parishes into two separate lists. Hopefully, I want to include them all and get them into their proper places.

As to whether any newbie WR user will ever look at a Place page at all--well, that's another problem. --goldenoldie 02:13, 1 March 2013 (EST)
