Patently ridiculous! I mean, six years before Plymouth?

According to Savage she died in England as Richard came to Wethersfield with 2nd wife Joanna, who was not the mother of his children. Wethersfield was founded in 1634. Richard may have settled there initially sometime after that.--Scot 13:56, 19 April 2008 (EDT)

Both John Harvey Treat, in his 1893 Treat genealogy, and Donald Lines Jacobus, in his 1952 Hale, House, indicate that Alice (Gaylord/Gaylard) Treat survived her husband, likely based on his wife "Alis Treat" having been named in his 13 February 1668 will. Savage's naming of one "Joanna" as a second wife then appears to be an error of which there are more than a few (not surprising since his work was done over 150 years ago and he relied on various correspondents throughout New England for much of the information he presented).--jaques1724 19:19, 26 August 2013 (EDT)
Rereading the Savage sketch of Richard Treat, the wording really seems to indicate that he thought "Joanna" was the mother of the children and came with him c. 1640'; that the widow "Alis" named in the will was a subsequent wife. Conclusion remains that "Joanna" did not exist.--jaques1724 19:39, 26 August 2013 (EDT)
