From Mary Clapp (19): Half made up, the other half only a bad misinterpretation [11 March 2011]

The existence of a daughter Mary Clapp was justified on this page by a reference to Pioneers of Ma, p. 100-101. On p. 101, Thomas is discussed. In the list of his children there is no daughter named Mary. However, a daughter Mary Tilden is named in the abstract of his will. (She is actually a daughter of his wife Abigail's by a previous marriage, Mary (Sharp) Tilden.) Presumably this is the basis for creating a page for Mary Clapp? Obvious this is a bad assumption.

However, Pope does not list her in the children of Thomas, and most particularly does not give a birthdate for Mary, and especially does not suggest she is a twin of Abigail. As Abigail's birth is listed in the Scituate VRs and there is no mention of a twin or of a Mary born the same date, this is somebody's blatant fiction.
