Re-entered the USA Aug. 22, 1932 as Sister Mary Winnifred, age 38 yrs. 5 months. papers indicate previous enterance July 1924. Destination Mount Mercy Academy, 1425 Bridge St., Grand Rapids Mich. features 5' tall, brown hair, blue eyes. film # M1478_51 Sister Susan Nowalis, Archivist, Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, confirmed Winifred Josephine entered the Novitiate in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Aug. 1924, and died June 28, 1950, at the Mount Mercy Academy, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Sister Maureen McGarrigle, Archivist- Detroit Sister of Mercy, email MAY 28, 2008 provided the following Her ministry record shows that she spent most of her ministry teaching the primary grades and teaching music at the elementary level. She spent 1927-1931 teaching in Clovis, New Mexico, among the native peoples there. She made her final vows there in 1930. If her experience was anything like the other Sisters who went there, it was a treasured memory for the rest of her life. Other than her 4 years in New Mexico, Sister spent the rest of her time in western Michigan , Grand Haven, Traverse City, Ludington except for a few years in Bay City. References
