... son of William Routson (1821-1887) and Artimesia L.(Artamicia/Artewsha) Gould. William ROUTSON b. Fayette CO. PA. Nov 17, 1821. d. Ravenna, Muskegon Co. Michigan. Nov. 6, 1887. Married May 1, 1845 Harriet Cannon b. Feb. 19, 1821, d. Sullivan, Ashland Co. Ohio Dec. 30, 1849, the only Routson buried in the small old cemetery at Sullivan (Rt 224).

William Routson married 2nd to Artimesia Gould (d/o Amos F. and Polly) born 1830. In 1850 William worked as a cooper in Ashland Co., living next to his parents Jonathan Routson and Sarah Kirkpatrick. Jonathan changed the spelling of his name ROUTZONG to ROUTSON.

Artimesia Gould (William's second wife) is the daughter of Amos F. Gould who lived in Sullivan, Ohio. There is a Gould family cemetery there, and he is buried either at that cemetery, or the one in Sullivan (he has two head stones both have the same info). Amos Gould is descended from the Gould family who founded Topsfield, Massachusetts. I have the Gould family book that has the information about Amos Gould, Artimesia and William Routson listed with children including: Willie A. born 1851 Dec. 20.

(You can request these from the state. Also, I would guess that both of their obituaries can be found in the Chronicle Telegram Newspaper of Elyria (the county seat) on Ancestry, but I don't subscribe any more because it got too expensive).

1910 census Lorain, Ohio on 5th Street: Lucius A. Routson, retail merchant in grocery store, age 27, born Ohio Elizabeth A., wife of one year, age 22 Josephine E., daughter, age 6 months."

Most of this information I already have, but some is new. Willis and Clara Routson also had a daughter Bertha Mae born 15 March 1874 Lorain County (died 18 April 1952 in Lorain Ohio). Bertha married Frederick Alfred Heimann 12 Oct 1892. Mr. Heimann was born in Berne, Switzerland (1868) and was brought to this country as a 6 month old infant.

I have seen a picture of Willis in a history book about Lorain County that they purchased in the ?1980's. He was a Lorain City policeman and there were those little round pictures of each policeman that was employed there at the time (I am guessing that would have been around 1900)... they lived in a house Willis had built on Seventh Street in Lorain that is still standing... Ruby Heimann was the daughter of Bertha Routson, (Willis Routson's daughter). Both Ruby and Bertha were married at a young age (17) and my dad vividly remembers his gr grandfather Willis as I remember my gr grandmother "Burbur".

Some of the information comes from "Rauenzahner to Routson - A Family on the Move" by John P. Dem and M. Marjorie Waidner. Picton Press of Camden Maine; and "The Family of Zaccheus Gould of Topsfield, Massachusetts" by Benjamin Gould originally published by the nichols Press Lynn, Mass then reprinted by The Anundsen Publishing Co. Decorah, Iowa.
