- ↑ Willie is undoubtedly not the natural child of these parents. In the 1870 census, his name is given as Willie Bond (i.e., no Knight), age 2, and is listed as an adopted son. There are only a couple of William Bonds whose birth is recorded in Massachusetts, and the one born in Boston in 1868 #6940 looks like a good candidate. His mother's name is Annie M, and it is suspected his mother was Annie M Knight, and she might have died, resulting in Willie being adopted by his grandparents. More research is needed.
