1816 Henry, KY Will Will written by William WILLIS of Henry Co. KY on 2 May 1816 lists his children as follows: Polly LAW, Susanna DUFF, Letticia SPEAR, Nancy MADDOX, Averilla LAW and John WILLIS. Will probated Aug 1816.
Attached is the Will of William Willis of Henry County, Kentucky which names his daughter Averilla Law. Through land records, I've traced this William Willis to Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. William's Will names five daughters and one son. In a previous Pittsylvania Co., Virginia land transaction, he deeded land to another son, Joel Willis. In this and other land transactions, his wife's name was either Avarilla or "Ava" (probably a shortened version of Avarilla.) This is probably the mother of Averilla Law. Jim Dwinell

I William Willis of Henry County, and state of Kentucky being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be unto God for the same. I do make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hand of God that gave it and as concerning my body, I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a decent manner at the discretion of my executors. Nothing doubting, but at the general resurrection to obtain everlasting happiness in the life to come. And as touching the such worldly estate wherewith it doth please God to bless me with this life, I give, devise and dispose of the same in manner in ...... from following, that is, today in the first place, I give and bequeath unto my four daughters, Polly Law, Surania Duff, Lettica Spear, and Nancy Maddox all of my personal property to be equally divided amongst. I also give and bequeath unto my daughter Avarila Law the sum of five pounds which she has already received in full of legacy. It is also my will and desire that my faithful servant Agatha and her son Laurence may quietly have their freedom and independence of my heirs, executors and administrators and assigns. I constitute, make and [appoint] my son John Willis my full executor to this my last will and testament. And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disannul any and every former testament will and legacies, bequests and executors by me in anyways before the time named will in bequeath satisfying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 2nd of May 1816. Signed, sealed and delivered by the hand of William Willis as his last will and testament in presence of us. John M.
