Will presented for administration by his son Xerxes on 19 May 1880. His Estate was valued at $2987.50. "Know all men by those present that I, William R. Wardwell of Penobscot in the county of Hancock and state of Maine being weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind and memory for which I have reason to thank God, do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament and herin (sic) discharge of all my wordly estate in manner following to wit: First, I order and direct my executor herin (sic) named, to pay all my just debts and funeral charge as soon as may be after my decease. Second, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Lucy S. Wardwell all my household furniture beds bedding carpets, rugs, dishes and things in the home at my decease; and one thousand dollars in money. Third, I give and devise to my beloved son Xerxes F. Wardwell all the rest residue and remainder of my personal property, wherever found. Fourth, I give and devise to my son Xerxes all the real estate I own in the towns of Penobscot and Bluehill viz. home farm and buildings about 100 acres . Stover Lot 50 acres. Folsom (illegible) 29 acres. Eliakim Wardwell place 79 acres. Here to pay the following sums to my children as follows viz. To my beloved son William D. Wardwell ($5.00), to my beloved son Ferdinand ($25.00) twenty five dollars, to my beloved son Charles E. Wardwell ($5.00) five dollars, to my son Joseph S. Wardwell twenty five dollars ($25.00), to my daughter Cybell A. Keys ($10) ten dollars, to my son Henry S. Wardwell five dollars $5.00. I do hereby appoint my said son Xerxes F. Wardwell sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. Lastly, I do hereby make and declare that at my decease my beloved wife Lucy S. Wardwell may elect to take the sum of $1000 one thousand dollars named in the former part of this will or one half the real and personal estate willed to the said Xerxes F. after the legacies to my other children are paid and other legal charges. I have herewith set my hand and seal this 20th day of November A.D. 1879. (signed) William R. Wardwell"
