Descended from Richard de Wadyngton 1388 of Coley, Halifax. William Waddington was a partner with his brother Samuel Ferrand Waddington 1788 (called Little Waddington) of Chatham and London, in the Chatham Bank. In 1792 he set up Cotton Mills at St. Remy-sur-Avre, in France, still running in 1927 under the same name. He was a Governor of Birdwell Hospital and was grandfather of Henry Waddington 1850, Prime Minister of France and French Ambassador in England.

Grace Valentine Sykes was the daughter of Henry Sykes of New Bridge Street, Blackfriars who was the only son and heir of Valentine Sykes by Therese, daughter and co-heiress of Francis Rigmaiden. Therese was maternally descended from the Pendrells, Preservers and Conductors of King Charles 11. in his escape after the Worcester Fight 1651.

In 1816 William Waddington obtained lettres des grande naturalisation pour services rendus a l'industrie from King Louis XV111 of France, for himself and his son Thomas W.

His daughter Maria md. 1827 at the British Ambassador's at Paris, by the Revd. J, Middleton, the Rev. Walter Augustus Shirley, D.D., of Shirley in the co. of Derby, Bishop of Sodor and Man, who was great-grandson of 4th Earl Ferrers and was father of 11th Earl Ferrers.
