Shortly before the start of the civil war, William F. Snapp and his family left Kentucky. They were not in sympathy with the south and slavery. Had they stayed it would have meant serving in the Confederate Army. They settled near Lebanon, Indiana. When they lived in Kentucky they had a colored girl (not a slave) as a housekeeper. She was nineteen at the time. As soon as he was able, William brought her back to Lebanon. They rode horseback and travelled at night, as no colored were allowed to leave the south. She lived with them the rest of her life.

William F. Snapp was a farmer and a circuit Preacher. He was married several times. On of his wives was // Bishop Snapp. She went back to Ireland for a visit in 1836, at the time they were having a Cholera plague. While there she didn't eat any meat and they thought that Was why she didn't get sick. they didn't know if she was married to William Snapp at this time or not.

William Snapp was killed wile riding on a hay wagon. Lightning struck a tree and the limes fell on him. He is buried in Georgetown, IL.
