HIGH ERCALL parish: Early pages are missing. Some interesting notes about High Ercall were in the preface: The church was originally dedicated to St. Edward the confessor, but is now dedicated to St. Michael and All Angels. There is now no ancient church plate. A silver chalice of 1690 was melted down into a modern form. A ciborium or alm's dish is dated 1747, and the flagon is of late 18th century workmanship. In a religious census taken in 1676 there were 304 conformists, 7 non-conformists, and no papists. [From Graham Price genetree@pacific.net.au 31 Dec 2001] |
