    "14 Capt. William4 Sage, bapt. Jan. 1, 1749; d. Nov. 8, 1833; … Capt. Sage built the 'Footit' House. He early served in the Rev. War, was made ensign Oct. 11, 1781. 'This assembly do establish William Sage to be Ensign of the 2d Company or Train band in the 23d Regiment in this State.'—Conn. State Journal, page 11, and acquired the title of captain by reason of later service in the militia. A bronze marker of the S. A. R. is at his grave."
