Will Transcript

In the name of God Amen the 3rd of August 1805, I William Reed of the County of Botetourt & State of Virginia being very sick in body but of perfect mind & memory. Thanks be giving unto God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my Body & knowing that it is apponted for all Men once to die do make & ordain this my Last Will & Testament. That is to say principally & first of all I give & recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that give it my? body. I do recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but all the general Resurrection. I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And as to ueleireg? such word by Estate where with it hathe pleased God to bless me in this life. I give devise? & dispose of the same in the following manner & form.
1st I give & bequeath unto Ruthe my beloved wife the whole of my lands for & during the term of her natural life & after her death I desire that the lands be sold & ten pounds of the money given to my son William Reed then the rest of the money be equally divided among all my children whose names follow; John Reed, Sarah McMullen, Ruthe New, Anne Knox, William Reed, Margaret Persinger, Rebekah Nysonger, Thomas Reed, Mary Kimberling and Archible Reed.
Likewise I give all the rest of my Estate both real & personal or perishable of every sort or kind whatsoever it may be except two Dollars which I desire may be kept out & given to the Methodist Church to Ruthe my wife to dispose of she sees cause.
And lastly I do hereby nominate & appoint my wife Ruthe & my son in law Jacob Persinger Executors of this my last will & Testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed by seal this 3rd day of August in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred & five.

This Instrument of writing purporting to be the last Will & Testament of William Reed Decd. was exhibited in Court & proven by the oaths of George Steele & Jacob Steele witnesses as thereto Subscribed is ordered to be Recorded on the motion of Ruthe Reed the widow & Relict of the sand Decd. & the Executrix & Jacob Persinger the Exor. therein named Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate there in due form they having first made oath & with security entered into & acknowledged Bond according to Law.
