William Edwin Peck

Waveland Independent, Thursday, July 30, 1936 – William Edwin Peck, 76, died at his home in Browns Valley at 6:30 o’clock, July 28, 1936. Mr. Peck was born in Greencastle on Oct. 31, 1859 the son of Benjamin Stevenson and Margaret Black Peck. He was educated in Greencastle schools and DePauw. His life work was farming near Greencastle and Waveland. He was VP of the Russellville Bank, a member of the Masonic Lodge and for 25 years an officer in the Presbyterian Church at Waveland. Mr. Peck is survived by the widow, Mrs. Lura Fraley Peck; two daughters, Gertrude Peck and Mrs. Richard McWilliams of Indianapolis; and one son, William Fraley Peck of Waveland. Funeral services were held at Waveland Presbyterian Church at 1:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon with Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

Funeral services for William Edwin PECK were conducted Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the Presbyterian Church with Rev. H Ray Sigler officiating. Burial in Forest HIll Cem, Greencastle. Pall bearers were George Spencer; Clarence Milligan; Harold Fordice; Harry Crutchfield; Floyd Fraley and Egar Pitts. Honorary pall bearers were: AC Deere; HN Fullenwider; Ed Heslar; ES McClellan; CB Taylor; WY Durham and Dr. AJ Kleiser. Flower bearers were Mary Elizabeth Peck; Margaret Spencer; Shirley Crutchfield; Betty Lou Fullenwider; Mary Emma Dooley; Mrs. Edgar Pitts; Mrs Harry Crutchfield; Mrs. Pearl Taylor and Mrs. HN Fullenwider. A quartet composed of Mrs. Fred McNutt; Miss Helen Kelso; Claude Lydick and Corta Dooley sang, Under His Wings; Some Day We'll Understand accompanied at the piano by Mrs. FT Burrin. William Edwin Peck passed away at 6:30 pm. July 28, 1936 at his home in Browns Valley. From our midst has passed the soul of a trusted Christian gentleman one who will be missed in the community, the church and his home. He was born in Greencastle, Indiana Oct 31, 1859, the son of Benjamin Stevenson Peck and Margaret Black Peck, of sturdy pioneer ancestry. His boyhood days were spent in Greencaslte on his father's farm near there. He was educated in the public schools, the academy and DePauw University. He was united in marriage to Lura Blanche Fraley of Linden, Indiana Feb 13, 1896. to this union were born 3 daughters and two sons, Margaret McWilliams of Indianapolis; Lura Blanche Peck, who died in infancy; Mary Gertrude Peck of Indianapolis; Andrew Edwin Peck who died in infancy and William Fraley Peck, who lives in the Peck homestead near Waveland. Surviving are the widow; two daughters, one sister and one sister, Mrs. WA Durham of North Manchester, Indiana. FOr a number of years Mr. Peck was in the hardware business at Linden. However, the major part of his life was devoted to farming near Greencastle and the past 35 years near Waveland. For a number of years he was VP of the Russellville Bank and a member of the Blue Lodge of Masons & Eastern Star. Early in his youth he united with the First Presbyterian Church of Greencastle. He was an ardent member and faithful adherent to his church. He embodied many of life's deeper meanings; trust-worthiness; great-heartedness and service. For 25 years he was an officer in the Presbyterian Church at Waveland. Mr. Peck contributed greatly to his community. The quiet courage of this Christian gentleman, with culture and refinement of soul was a living example of man's faith in God and His Infinite power. The book of his life is written and closed, but his influence will live in the lives of his family, the community and his church.
