A man named Hall killed William J. Lord. The Halls in Wilkinson County were these during the reconstruction came into possession of thousands of acres once owned by the Lords and their in-laws. The largest landowner in Wilkinson County, Joel Deese, husband of Nancy Lord, sister of James M. Lord, father of William J. Lord, was murdered during Reconstruction, and the Halls stole his land. No record of Joel Deese or Nancy Lord remains - no deeds in the courthouse, no grave markers, nothing at all. The murderers did a thorough job and became Wilkinson County's best people.
